Avon Lake Plans Summer-Long Celebration for America’s 250th Birthday

This summer the City of Avon Lake, Avon Lake Historical Society, Avon Lake Public Library, Sprenger Health Care Systems, Shoreline Promotions, and local sponsors are teaming up to present the 250 Jubilee, a summer-long celebration filled with music, contests, and community fun in honor of America’s 250th birthday. This celebration begins in May and will culminate in a fireworks celebration at Weiss Field (33401 Webber Road) on Friday, July 3.

“The 250 Jubilee is about creating once-in-a-lifetime experiences that honor our past, enrich our present, and inspire generations to come,” said Tony Tomanek, President of Avon Lake Historical Society. “This celebration offers something for everyone. We are bringing all of Avon Lake together to celebrate our shared past and create lasting memories that strengthen our community.”

Events Schedule

​​​Spring Fishing Derby – Ages 15 and under, Saturday, May 2, 10 a.m. – 1 p.m., Walker Road Park, 31621 Walker Road. This free event is made possible by the Avon Lake Boat Club in partnership with Avon Lake Recreation Department, Ohio Division of Wildlife, Erie Outfitters, and Cabela’s. Pre-registration is required.

Avon-on-the-Lake Garden Club Mother’s Day Plant Sale – Saturday, May 9, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m, The Goddard School, 430 Avon Belden Road. Celebrate America’s 250th with a burst of red, white, and blue as the Avon-on-the-Lake Garden Club enhances its Annual Plant Sale with a patriotic kickoff to the summer.

Avon Lake Town Takeover Night at Forefront Field – Saturday, May 9, 7 p.m., 2009 Baseball Boulevard, Avon. It’s Avon Lake take over night at ForeFront Field as the Lake Erie Crushers take on the Schaumburg Boomers in a fun-filled night that includes $1.00 hot dogs and post-game fireworks.

TrueNorth Cultural Arts Patriotic Concert – Saturday, May 16, 7:30 p.m., Avon Lake Presbyterian Church, 32340 Electric Boulevard. Enjoy an inspiring evening of music and reflection in celebration of America’s 250th anniversary.

Golden Paw Awards & Parade – Saturday, May 30, 4 p.m., Erieview Elementary, 32630 Electric Boulevard. Join us for an afternoon full of adorable pups, lively entertainment, and community fun. The event kicks off with a parade of participants, followed by a series of friendly competitions, with a Barbershop Quartet setting the tone and dog-friendly vendors to explore throughout. Pre-registration is required to participate in the competition.

Avon Lake’s Birthday Party Field Games Championship – Saturday, June 6, 11 a.m. – 2 p.m., Miller Road Park, 33760 Lake Road. Celebrate the 75th anniversary of Avon Lake officially becoming a city and compete in classic field games for a chance to win $250 cash prizes. Presented by the Avon Lake Historical Society. Team pre-registration is required. The deadline to register is June 2.

The Great Avon Lake Bake-Off – Saturday, June 13, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m., Avon Lake Public Library, 32649 Electric Boulevard. Adults and kids ages 13 and under will compete in four baking categories for a chance to win $250 cash prizes. Pre-registration is required.

Avon Lake Boat Club Open House – Saturday, June 13, 12 – 3 p.m., Avon Lake Boat Club, 32770 Lake Road. Enjoy boat and kayak rides, and light snacks direct from Lake Erie. No registration required.

Adult Spelling Bee – Thursday, June 18, 7– 8:30 p.m., Avon Lake Public Library, 32649 Electric Boulevard. Compete for the ALPL Spelling Bee Trophy by spelling words from the book Words of Champions 2026. Pre-registration required.

SummerFest – Saturday, June 20, 5 – 9 p.m., Miller Road Park, 33760 Lake Road. Enjoy live music by the Neil Diamond tribute band The Diamond Project, a kids’ play area, contests, and great food and drinks.

Lake Erie Liberty 5K and 1-mile Run/Walk – Saturday, June 27, 9 – 11 a.m., Beach Park Station, 33489 Lake Road. Awards will be given out in by age group. All participants receive a race shirt, post-race refreshments, and a finisher medal. Registration required. Presented by Shoreline Productions and the City of Avon Lake Recreation Department.

Pickleball Tournament – Saturday, June 27, Avon Lake High School Pickle Ball Courts. Registration is required to compete in this Round Robin tournament for beginner to advanced players. Register by June 22. Players should arrive 30 minutes before their scheduled match.

Fireworks Celebration – Friday, July 3, 4 p.m. (Fireworks at 10 p.m.), Weiss Field, 33401 Webber Road. Join us as we cap off the 250 Jubilee celebration with a bigger-than-ever fireworks celebration, food trucks, live music, kids’ activities. Sponsored by the City of Avon Lake Recreation Department, Avon Lake Historical Society, and Ron Zehel Guitar Center.
