UH St. John Medical Center Honors Volunteers

Nothing celebrates the power of community more than the spirit of the volunteer!

Longtime volunteers were honored at the Annual Luncheon.

“You are often the first person and last person our patients see. No matter the role or location, your presence makes a meaningful difference across our entire organization.” – UH SJMC CEO Brian Monter

At UH St. John Medical Center volunteers play a vital role in the day-to-day operations of the hospital.

“You are often the first person and last person our patients see,” said UH SJMC CEO Brian Monter at a luncheon honoring volunteers last Friday at the Westlake Recreation Center.

“You staff our Information Desks, the Gift Shop, you transport, you work in Pastoral Care, you bring our Pet Pals (which grew from 10 to 16 dogs this year), and are the Knitters Club. You support our teams in Process Stores, Human Resources, EVS, OPS, Radiology, PAT, the Wound Center and our patient care units.

“No matter the role or location, your presence makes a meaningful difference across our entire organization.” Volunteers range in age from young adults in high school and college to folks well into retirement age.

In 2025, UH SJMC volunteers logged an impressive 22,020 hours of service! To put this in perspective, current volunteers overall have contributed more than 250,000 lifetime hours to the organization.

14 volunteers have served for over 20 years. 25 volunteers have given more than 10 years and 30 volunteers have dedicated over five years.

“You make a difference in ways both seen and unseen, and our organization is stronger, kinder and more compassionate because of you,” said Monter.
