The reality of a cancer diagnosis is worrisome enough. But many cancer patients and their families find themselves facing financial hardship at the same time they are battling their illness.
“The Caring Continues” fund at the Cleveland Clinic Cancer Center, Moll Pavilion, Fairview Hospital was created to help these patients and their families when they most need financial relief. The fund helps them with things like assistance in paying an electric, gas or phone bill. It can also help in making a rent or mortgage payment, or the co-payment for much needed medication.
Resources for “The Caring Continues” fund were raised Saturday, Nov. 14, at the 12th annual Caring Continues Benefit and Auction hosted by the Community West Foundation at Wagner’s of Westlake. A record number of nearly 300 guests enjoyed a delicious dinner, an evening of auctions and a ‘Night at the Races’ video racetrack.

Social workers and event coordinators Gwen Paull, Debbie Adams, Sara Follmer, Nicole Herbst and Peggy Filippi.
“Imagine the hardships of battling cancer and also struggling to keep up with house payments, insurance, medical bills and even groceries. We are so very grateful for this support,” said Dr. Timothy Spiro, Medical Director, Moll Cancer Center.
“Every dollar raised at this event goes to patient needs,” said Neil P. Smith, D.O., President of Fairview Hospital.
Through the generosity of supporters, over 200 patients were helped this year with rent, utilities, medication, car payments, and transportation to medical appointments. Giant Eagle gift cards were also provided to assist with gasoline and food expenses.
