Bay Magnolia Celebrates the Glory of Spring

Last week’s spring weather brought out the glory of spring, especially so at the home of Eileen and Jerry Jarc of Bay Village.

Their massive Dr. Merrill variety magnolia bloomed in full splendor, bringing to life the story of a tree that was started as sapling many years ago.

“Our tree is a cutting from my parents’ tree in Lakewood (Riverside drive), given to us soon after we moved to our Bay Village home in 1978,” reports Eileen. “It was only a couple feet tall at the time. It has become a neighborhood favorite over the past 45 years: a good climbing tree, a cool secret hiding place in summer.”

Their grandson, Josef Jarc took full advantage of this treasure as he explored its wonders in the time-tested ways of hiding and climbing.

The tree stands at 317 Bassett Road and graces the front yard of the Jarc’s historic Saddler home.
