Black History Month Avon Wax Museum

In celebration of Black History Month, sixth-grade students at Avon Middle School researched historical figures and transformed into that person through dramatic play in a classroom “Wax Museum”. Students were dressed in character and prepared a monologue to share with guests visiting the museum. Some of the wax figures included Jackie Robinson, Kamala Harris, Michelle Obama, Simone Biles, Katherine Johnson (rocket scientist), Wilma Rudolph, Alexia Canady, and Colin Powell, among others.

: Avon Middle School sixth-grader Tyler Eddy as General Benjamin Oliver Davis Sr. Davis was a career officer in the United States Army. One of the few black officers in an era when American society was largely segregated, in 1940 he was promoted to brigadier general, the Army’s first African American general officer.
