Dr Bernard J Mauser pic-1Dr. Bernard J. Mauser has been named as the first Upper School Principal at Westside Christian Academy, an inter-denominational classical and Christian school with PreK, a Grammar School for K-6 and an Upper School for Grades 7-12 in Westlake.

Students at Westside Christian Academy (WCA) in Grades 7-12 learn using a classical approach. This means students learn Latin, the art of thinking (logic), the art of speaking (rhetoric), and study primary texts (writings from the great authors themselves) from a Christian worldview.

“We had set really high standards in our search for the right person to lead the Upper School. Dr. Bernard Mauser brings a very strong academic background and the heart of a youth pastor to the position,” said WCA Headmaster, Jim Whiteman. “He is passionate about education, his family, defending his faith, and equipping our kids to impact our world and live passionate Christ-filled lives. We are excited to have him as part of the WCA family.”

WCA LogoCelebrating its 20th anniversary this year, WCA is on its way to becoming a PreK-12 school. They launched the Upper School in fall 2015, combining the existing grades 7 and 8 with a new grade 9. Grade 10 and a pre-Kindergarten class will start this fall. Plans are to add Grades 11 and 12 in 2017 and 2018, respectively.

As the Upper School Principal, Dr. Mauser will be teaching and developing the curriculum. In addition to his experience at San Diego Christian College, he has taught a diversity of courses at Marquette University, Cardinal Stritch University, Southern Evangelical University, and Liberty University in Philosophy, Economics, Government, and Theology.
