Avon Football: A Very Special Year

The 2017 campaign was one of the best-ever in Avon High School history.

The Eagles flew high this season, going undefeated through the regular season and capturing an undisputed Southwestern Conference championship. They posted a 10-0 regular season record.

Avon High School, 2017 Southwestern Conference and OHSAA Div. II Regional Champions!

Then it was off to the OHSAA Div. 2 Playoffs where Avon won just the second Regional championship in school history and advanced to the state’s final four.

When it was over, Avon closed the books on an amazing 13-1 season – best ever in Eagle annals.

For Coach Mike Elder, it was special indeed!

Junior quarterback Ryan Maloy led Avon to a school-best 13 wins this season.

“These seniors and the 2017 TEAM have left a legacy!” says Coach Elder. “Their work ethic and love of their teammates was Elite. Nothing is given and everything is earned in our program. Playing for the town in which you live is special.”

In a season of triumph, Avon players also achieved individual recognition. Earning All-Ohio honors were wide receiver Chris Mullins, quarterback Ryan Maloy, lineman Jimmy McKenna, defensive lineman Max Torbert, linebacker Kyle Kudla and punter David Orlando.

“Thank you to the players and coaches for another awesome ride!!  Our district and our community are proud of you!!,” said Supt. of Schools Mike Laub.

“Love this team. It is and always will be a great day to be an Eagle,” said senior Max Torbert.

“Best 14 weeks of my life,” added David Orlando as he closes the book on a life chapter that will only grow in meaning through time.
