Westlake Girls Win District Track Title

The Westlake High girls track team qualified six individuals and three relay teams to this week’s Regional Championships, en route to winning the team’s first District Championship in the 40-plus year history of the program.

Avon Wins Back-to-Back SWC Track Titles

Avon’s boys track and field team won the 2022 Southwestern Conference Track & Field Championships at Amherst on Friday. The Eagles claimed ten individual titles en route to the title.

Avon recorded 171 team points, while Berea-Midpark finished in second place with 115 points. Avon Lake finished third with 109.5 points, and North Ridgeville followed with 76 points in fourth place.

The Eagles earned their first-place finishes from Colin Kaufmann in the 100m dash (11.08), 200m dash (22.19) and Tommy Ptacek in the 400m dash (50.70). Drew Lindsey won both the 110m hurdles (15.35) and the 300m hurdles (41.15). Evan Schakel won both the shot put (52-08.5) and the discus (157-08) while Mike Yeager won the long jump after jumping 21-00. The Eagles won the 4×200 relay and the 4×100 relay of Ptacek, Kaufmann, Tim Conwell and Lindsey set the meet record winning in 42.37

Avon Wins Third Straight SWC Tennis Title

Avon won the 2022 Southwestern Conference Boys Tennis Tournament on Monday with a team score of 40. It is their third consecutive tournament title in a row. Avon claimed all three individual titles and both doubles titles in their victory.

Avon Lake finished the tournament in second place with 29 points, followed by third-place Olmsted Falls with 28 points. North Ridgeville finished in fourth place with 24 points and Amherst Steele rounded out the top five with 23 team points.

Avon Lake Wins Girls SWC Track Championship

Avon Lake’s girls track and field team won the 2022 Southwestern Conference Track & Field Championships at Amherst on Friday. The Shoregals claimed two event titles en route to the SWC Championships title.

Avon Lake recorded 105 team points, while Olmsted Falls finished in second place with 95 points. Berea-Midpark finished third with 93.5 points, while Avon finished fourth with 93 points.

The Shoregals earned one of their first place finishes on the track with their second in the shot put circle. Claire Springer won the shot put after her toss of 36-01.50. The Avon Lake 4x100m relay team of Julia Hurd, Elizabeth Manly, Taylor Firment and Olivia Lengel finished first with their time of 9:39.29.
