Community West Foundation Awards One Million in Second Quarter

The Community West Foundation Board of Directors approved $908,000 in second quarter grants to nonprofit agencies that are located in Cleveland, Western Cuyahoga and Lorain Counties. An additional $134,000 was distributed through their Community Impact Fund bringing the grand total to $1,042,000. The Community Impact Fund was established for donors who want to invest alongside Community West’s mission knowing that contributions would be distributed directly to grantees quarterly.

For the second quarter, Community West Foundation provided grants to nonprofits that align with their mission areas of housing and homeless services as well as programs for the incarcerated or those re-entering society. “Affordable housing remains a critical need in our community. As a result, this quarter will be the largest amount in grants for us this year.” commented Marty Uhle, Community West Foundation President and CEO.

Organizations receiving grants include:

Cuyahoga County:

• Bay Presbyterian Bridge CLE’s Resilience Ministry: new Resilience Ministry will bring needed trauma counseling services to the Clark/Fulton community
• Chair-ity: provides furniture and home goods to youth aging out of the foster care system
• Community Housing Solutions: provides home repair assistance to low income homeowners and especially seniors
• Community Service Alliance: provides shelter and other services to men experiencing homelessness, re-entering society or facing addiction
• Denison UCC: programs and services for youth in an area without many resources available
• EDEN: provides housing solutions for those who are homeless or housing insecure
• Family Promise of Greater Cleveland: provides shelter, basic needs, and supportive services for homeless families
• Front Steps Housing & Services: permanent supportive housing
• Galilean Theological Center Counselor’s Training: new program training incarcerated individuals at the Grafton Correctional Institution to be addiction recovery counselors
• Goods Bank NEO: provides furniture and home goods to nonprofits so they can provide them to their clients in need
• Greater Cleveland Habitat for Humanity: helps individuals transition from homelessness to home ownership
• Love Inc Cuyahoga County: partners with local churches to help vulnerable families remain stable in their homes
• Lutheran Metropolitan Ministry: provides shelter and housing services, work force development programs and coalition building
• NEOCH (Northeast Ohio Coalition for the Homeless): street outreach program serving the shelter-resistant; advocacy for the homeless population
• Nueva Luz Urban Resource Center: helps people living with HIV/AIDS increase their access to both primary medical care and supportive services including legal, foodbank, recovery services and housing assistance
• St. Herman’s FOCUS Cleveland: shelter and services for homeless men
• The City Mission (Laura’s Home): shelter for women and child who are homeless or in crisis
• The Legal Aid Society of Cleveland: helps secure safe and stable housing for low income families and supports individuals who are re-entering society
• The Salvation Army Greater Cleveland: Zelma George Shelter, a family housing program which also provides additional supportive services
• True Freedom Ministries: provides a variety of programs for those who are incarcerated, experiencing homelessness or facing addiction
• Urban Hope: only organization in our area that provides meals and services on Sundays
• Ursuline Piazza: provides housing and services for people who have HIV/AIDS
• Youth Bee Works: provides education and manages colonies at The Refugee Response Ohio City Farm as well as several other locations
• YWCA Greater Cleveland: A Place 4 Me – programming for youth and young-adults aging out of the foster care system
• YWCA Greater Cleveland: Norma Herr Women’s Shelter – the largest women’s shelter in Cleveland
• Zelie’s Home: shelter and services for homeless pregnant women, new moms and their children

Lorain County:

• Blessing House: provides housing to children whose families are in crisis
• Good Knights, Inc.: makes beds and provides them to children in need, in both Cuyahoga and Lorain Counties
• Humility of Mary Housing: operates a supportive housing program for chronically homeless single parents
• Neighborhood Alliance: Haven Center provides shelter and crisis services to men, women and children in need; largest home-delivery meal service for seniors in Lorain County
• The New Community: provides trauma therapy services for men and women recently released from prison
• United Way of Greater Lorain County: UCAN (United Community Assistance Network) – new collaborative model where nonprofits provide case management to ensure clients receive needed services
