Doug Dake, Westlake High’s one and only state wrestling champ, passed away on April 11, 2024 at his home in Lansing, New York.
Doug, Class of 1980, was beloved by his classmates as an outgoing and gregarious student-athlete at Westlake High.
He went to excel at his sport at Kent State, where he earned all-America honors. There, he met his wife Jodi, a collegiate gymnast. They settled in Lansing, New York, where Doug taught and coached wrestling. His son, Kyle, is a United States Olympic wrestler, qualifying for Paris just last week. Doug’s dad, Bob Dake, was founder of the Westlake youth football program.
