It’s in the Bones: Halloween Fun on Osborn Road

Halloween has hit an all new high on Osborn Road in Bay Village.

Not only do they encourage voters to get out to the ballot box with this depiction of the Bay Village mayoral race, they also change out their creative Halloween displays every day or two.

This display had already changed when we went back with our camera last week to catch the election scene there. But yard artist Apryl (“with a Y – my parents were hippies”) had happily preserved the image and shared this one with The Villager.

Apryl also sent us a bunch more – and they not only make a great Halloween week gallery, they capture the creativity and humor Apryl uses in her never-scary, kid friendly sculptures.

“We moved into Bay 15 years ago so really for about 14 years I’ve been at it with the skeletons,” says Apryl.

“It’s fun to meet neighbors and to see the faces of little kids. We have a big bus stop for kids (on our corner). We make it so it’s not scary for them and I let all the kids touch anything they want.

“When I was little, we would always pass this house in Parma where I lived and they had so many Halloween ghosts and ghouls; I just thought it was so cool they had so many. So I started collecting once I got older.

“My husband owns Carol and John’s comic shop in Kamm’s corner so I definitely got inspired by his sense of community also.

“We give away free comic books on Halloween night, too. It’s funny, everyone asks when I change them out cause they don’t see me do it. I go out once my kids go to bed so when they wake up the next day it’s like a surprise.”
