Lake Erie Crushers Sign Local Coach

Baseball has a way of creating its own storylines, and in the case of Brett Muché, the story continues to unfold.

Muché began his baseball journey at North Olmsted High School where he put together four years that amounted to him being inducted into their Hall of Fame.. He went on to play college baseball at Tiffin University and signed his first professional contract with the Newark Buffalos in 1994, who were part of the Frontier League at that time.

After playing for a year in South Dakota, Muché took his baseball knowledge to California and Washington state, where he began to invest in the next generation of baseball players.

“Right when I was done playing professionally, I started coaching in the Los Angeles Unified School District and also for El Segundo High School under the winningest coach in California, John Stevenson,” Muché said. “I was fortunate enough to be mentored by amazing men that were very successful coaches.”

Despite all the successes he enjoyed coaching on the west coast developing players and even coaching at the collegiate level, Muché felt a beckoning to return home to northeast Ohio.

“There’s no place in the world like Northeast Ohio. I took the Northeastern Ohio work ethic out into the world. People here are a different breed. Hard working, [and they] don’t make excuses.”

Now, over 30 years removed from his time at North Olmsted, Muché is coming back to where his baseball journey began in northeast Ohio to be the hitting coach for the hometown Frontier League team, the Lake Erie Crushers – a full-circle moment.

“I can’t sleep sometimes at night, I am so excited. I spent this winter coaching baseball at Lorain County Community College, and those kids are unbelievable,” Muché said. “Watching them and knowing I’ve got the Crushers players coming too is just the greatest feeling. The neat thing is my college players can’t wait to come down to ForeFront Field in the summer. They tell me they are going to sit behind first base and make fun of me the whole game.”

The Crushers will begin their season on May 8th at ForeFront Field. For Brett Muché, or “Coach “Mooch” per his LCCC players, that day can’t come soon enough. Tickets can be purchased online at LakeErieCrushers.com.
