Meet Sophia Tjotjos: Candidate for Ohio House District 16

As voters prepare to choose their next representative in an open seat race for Ohio House District 16, Republican candidate Sophia Tjotjos says her campaign is rooted in the Westside communities she has called home for more than 40 years.

An attorney, small-business owner, and mother of four, Tjotjos says she would bring a combination of legal, business, and deep community roots to the Statehouse.

Property Tax Reform: Tjotjos has proposed protections for longtime senior homeowners, reforms to Ohio’s property valuation process and consideration of a circuit breaker for homeowners whose property-tax burden is growing faster than their ability to pay.

Your Money, Spent Responsibly: Her fiscal responsibility plan focuses on scrutinizing state spending, finding waste and fraud, and making sure the Westside receives a fair return on its tax dollars.

Strong Schools: Tjotjos supports strong public schools, completing Ohio’s Fair School Funding Plan with careful attention to District 16’s share, and maintaining parent’s educational choices to best meet their child’s needs.

Lake Erie & Quality of Life: Protecting Lake Erie and the quality of life on the Westside is central to Tjotjos’ platform, including investment in water quality, safety services, local infrastructure, and small businesses.

Responsible Growth: Her data-center plan calls for protections for residential ratepayers, land and water-use, local input, and accountability for taxpayer incentives.

VOTER DATES TO KNOW: Ohio’s voter registration deadline is October 5. Early voting begins October 6, and Election Day is Tuesday, November 3.
