Issue No. 71 has been approved by Westlake City Council to be placed on the November 5th ballot. It calls for the renewal of the 3/8th of 1 percent income tax, which is exclusively used for the construction, repairs, and improvement of roads and highways, storm sewers, water retention basins, and water lines.
This “Infrastructure Tax” has been in effect since it was originally placed on the ballot in 1993 and was renewed once in 2006. This is not a new tax but is included in the 1.5% local income tax, still lower than all the surrounding communities.
The City continues to provide a 100% tax credit to residents who work outside of Westlake. Those residents and non-residents that work in Westlake will not see any change in their tax rate either.
The City has completed $200 million in projects including the current widening and improvement of the Dover Center and Center Ridge intersection to accommodate the new Westlake Elementary Schools next to Porter Library with the revenues generated from the 3/8th of 1 percent income tax.
Since 1993, in addition to expending $33,755,000 in road maintenance and repairs, the following major projects have been accomplished over the years since the 3/8th of 1 percent Infrastructure tax went into effect:
