To the Moon and Back with NASA
John Oldham of NASA Glenn Research Center returns to Lake Erie Nature & Science Center in Bay Village for a presentation on space mission success and failure for the center’s adult speakers series, Second Nature.
Astronomy buffs may remember Oldham’s last appearance at the Bay Village science center in 2011, when he delighted guests with stories of humanity’s close encounters with space debris and showed off his collection of meteorites, moon rocks and more.
Guests are invited to join him again on Thursday, February 14 for a glimpse of a few more fascinating space artifacts, this time highlighting the history of man’s journeys into space and concentrating on the groundbreaking Apollo manned-missions.
Oldham will recap the history of the Apollo space program, which saw men land on the moon successfully between 1968 and 1972, and reveal a few gems from NASA Glenn’s exhibit collection like a spacesuit used by Apollo 8 astronauts and moon rocks returned to Earth by the Apollo 15 mission.
The presentation will conclude with a look ahead to NASA’s next forays into the final frontier and ponder if commercial space travel will make a vacation to Mars a reality in the years to come.
Adults are welcome to the free presentation which begins at 7 p.m. and will be followed by a question and answer session with Mr. Oldham.
