CLEVELAND – Dr. Patricia Rowell, who has led Cuyahoga Community College’s largest Patricia-Rowell-199x300campus for seven years, has announced that she will retire, effective June 30, 2013.

Cuyahoga Community College, currently marking a year-long celebration of its 50th anniversary, was Ohio’s first community college. Of the college’s four campuses, the Western Campus’ sprawling facility at 11000 Pleasant Valley Road, Parma, currently enrolls more than 12,000 students.

Previously, she was the director of community education, director of economic development and assistant to the president of Seminole State College in Florida. She earned her doctorate in Educational Leadership from the University of Florida.

“The campus is poised to continue its great service to the community as we provide access and success for our students on their educational journey,” Dr. Rowell said.

Tri-C will remain a strong and a vibrant employer with many team members active in the local community. The faculty, staff and administration are deeply committed to the long-term success of our students.”

Dr. Rowell is known among her peers and the students as a tireless leader and committed mentor.

“She supports the professional growth of faculty, staff and administrators. She is also a passionate supporter of our college students. It’s not uncommon to see her interacting with our students on campus,” said Dr. Belinda Miles, provost and executive vice president of academic and student affairs. “She is engaged in the community and serves as the face of Tri-C’s Western Campus.” Dr. Rowell is a board member on the Parma Area Chamber of Commerce and sits on the North Royalton YMCA’s Board of Directors.”

Judith A. McMullen, vice president of Human Resources, will oversee the search advisory committee that will conduct a national search for the next Western Campus president. The search advisory committee will include representatives of the faculty, staff, administration and the community. The target start date for the next Western Campus president is July 1, 2013.
