MIDDLE, HIGH SCHOOL ARTISTS EARN NATIONAL GOLD MEDALS
Westlake High School senior art student Julianne Aprile and Lee Burneson Middle School eighth grader Ben Sposet received national Gold Medal awards in the 2013 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards.
Julianne won a Gold Medal for her painting, “Rust Belt.” She also was named the American Visions award winner for Cuyahoga County, earning one of only five awards in the nation. Ben won a Gold Medal for his drawing, “1.6180339887 498948482045868343656381177203.” Gold medals recognize the most outstanding works in the nation.
The Alliance for Young Artists & Writers National ART.WRITE.NOW NYC Exhibition, showcasing National Gold Medalist work, will be on display in New York City, coinciding with the national celebration at Carnegie Hall. Julianne’s and Ben’s works will be among 300 works of art and more than 50 works of writing from the National Award winners to be included in the exhibition. Their work also will go on tour through ongoing exhibitions at the U.S. Department of Education and the President’s Committee on the Arts and Humanities.
Both Ben and Julianne will receive their awards at a special ceremony at Carnegie Hall on May 31.
