Congratulations to Westlake Animal Control Officer Jim Wang retired last week after 24 years of service to the citizens and 4-legged friends of Westlake.
Mayor Dennis Clough issued a Proclamation declaring ACO Wang Day while Chief Kevin Bielozer explained that Jim ‘exemplified the “3-E’s” – He Educated the public, he Empathized with the humans and animals he came in contact with and he continually Exceeded the public’s expectations. Enjoy Retirement!’
“I probably dealt with every kind of animal there is in North America,” says Wang of his career. “Lots of owls and hawks and stuff like that I would take to the Nature Center (in Bay Village). There were also snakes and animals left behind by deceased owners. But it was the owls and hawks I enjoyed the most.”
Jim Wang touched many lives in his career, helping animals and also the families of pets and other critters who touched the community. There were antlers in soccer netting, ducklings in drains and turtles crossing the road. Those are just some of the stories that came the way of the Villager through Jim’s involvement.
Jim and his wife, Debbie, have long been recognized as community activists in Westlake. They were named Mrs & Mr Westlake in 2024, cited for their many community involvements. “His compassionate approach has led to the successful adoption of numerous cats and dogs, while also helping residents locate lost pets and rescuing animals from harm,” said Mayor Dennis Clough at the time.
Best wishes for a long and happy retirement, Jim Wang.
