Bay Village Police: Craig’s List Identity Theft

On 04/06/2013, at 1201 hours, a Lake Forest resident called to report someone had fraudulently listed his house in Florida on Craig’s List as a rental.  As a result, people had been submitting rental agreements to e-mail address.  This information was then being used by the suspects to steal the identity of the potential renters.  BVPD is investigating.

 

On 04/08/2013, at 0009 hours, a resident in the 26000 block of Knickerbocker called Bay Village Police to report a suspicious vehicle in the area.  The jeep was driving slowly down the street with its headlights off.  Responding officers discovered the driver was dropping some items off to a friend that lived in the area.  The driver was advised of the complaint.

 

On 04/06/2013, at 0222 hours, a Bay Village Police officer located a male and female sleeping in a car in the rear lot of Bay Presbyterian Church.  The homeless couple did not have permission to be on the property.  They were advised about the trespassing laws and sent on their way.

 

On 04/05/2013, at 1425 hours, a resident in the 24000 block of Lake Rd. observed a male looking in her windows.  Police searched the area but could not locate him.  The caller described the person a w/m wearing a stocking cap, red plaid shirt, in his 50’s with a short beard.

 

On 04/04/2013, at 2337 hours, a resident in the 29000 block of Lincoln reported someone had smashed out the windshield of his car with a two liter bottle.  No other vehicles in the area were damaged.

 

On 04/03/2013, at 1543 hours, an Appleblossom resident report she had been scammed by a contractor.  She paid the contractor $15,000 around Thanksgiving to purchase materials.  The contractor never delivered the materials and stopped working. The homeowner has been unable to contact the company and police are investigating.

 

On 04/04/2013, at 2035 hours, Bay Village Police was advised by Westlake PD of a possible OVI heading northbound on Bradley at the Rail Road tracks.  A BVPD officer caught up with the vehicle on Bassett near Wolf.  After speaking with the 53 yoa male driver, the officer suspected the driver had been drinking.  Field sobriety tests were administered, and as a result, the driver was arrested for OVI.  He will face charges at Rocky River Municipal Court.

 

A Fordham Parkway resident reported on April 1, 2013 someone removed a boys 26” Schwinn Ranger bicycle from his garage.

 

A Knickerbocker resident reported on April 1, 2013 that someone entered his unlocked motor vehicle overnight and stole his wallet.
