Dr. William Stanfield, orthopedic surgeon with The Center for Orthopedics, is the first physician in Lorain County to be named a Fellow Member of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons (AAHKS). There are more than 1,900 members of AAHKS world-wide.
Physicians seeking Fellow Membership in the association, which is the highest level that can be attained, must undergo a rigorous application process, including providing a 12-month case log which is reviewed by a committee of their peers, as well as two letters of recommendation, among other requirements. In order to be considered, physicians who practice in the United States must be certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgeons, and perform at least 50 total hip and/or 50 total knee replacements annually. Dr. Stanfield completes more than 200 total joint replacements each year.
A resident of Avon Lake, Dr. Stanfield has been in practice at The Center for Orthopedics since 1997, and specializes in joint replacement, sports medicine and arthroscopy. He was raised in Vermilion, Ohio and received his doctor of medicine degree from The Ohio State University College of Medicine.
