Arlington National Cemetery Program in Avon Lake

HALLOWED GROUND: ARLINGTON CEMETERY

Join us at the American Legion Post 211, 31972 Walker Road, Avon Lake, Ohio to listen to Art Hildebrandt talk on the “Hallowed Ground: Arlington Cemetery” over a 3 night period, beginning on August 13 through August 15, 2013.  Each talk will be one hour in length, beginning at 7 p.m. in the dining hall of the Post.

The talks will center on different aspects of the Cemetery including: establishment during the Civil War; the lengths the US takes to recover and honor its fallen; how the Unknowns were selected; and JFK grave site.  Each tombstone does tell a story.  We will discuss these and more.

You do not need be an Armed Forces Veteran or you do not have to live in Avon Lake to attend this event.

There is no charge to this event, however we will take donations of which all proceeds  will go to the Wounded Warriors Project.

Arthur H. Hildebrandt

   Art is a graduate of St. Ignatius High School (1964) and Georgetown University (1968, B.A. in economics).  In 1974, he received his J.D. degree from The Cleveland State University, John Marshall College of Law.

Between college and law school, he was commission in the U.S. Naval Reserves.  He was on active duty for three years serving on the USS DeSoto County (LST-1171) and in Vietnam as the Senior Advisor to Vietnamese River Patrol Group 53. He was awarded the Combat Action Ribbon, National Defense Medal, and the Navy Commendation Medal with Combat “V”.

After law school, he moved to the Washington, DC area where he worked for the Office of the General Counsel, Navy for 32 years.  He retired and returned to Ohio.
