If you think that newspapers can only yield obituaries and death notice information for your genealogical research, you are missing the real treasures there.  Newspapers can provide marriage and birth announcements, military service and so much more to bring a historical context to your family tree.  In the past, it was time consuming to search the newspapers because they are not indexed.  But now, many newspapers have been digitized, thus making it easier to search them for specific information.

Nationally recognized speaker and Ohio Genealogical Society’s Cleveland District Trustee, Deborah Abbott, PhD will be sharing her tips on what can be found in newspapers, where to find them, how to search them and how to make newspaper research worth your time and effort, at the September 18th meeting of the Cuyahoga West Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society.  Her presentation is at 7:00 p.m., in the Porter Room, Westlake Porter Public Library, 27333 Center Ridge Rd.  Social time, with refreshments, is from 6:30-7:00 p.m.  The public is invited to attend, at no cost.  For more information, visit http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~ohcwogs or emailcuyahogawest@gmail.com.
