Avon-on-the-Lake Garden Club (member of National Garden Clubs, Inc), and the city of Avon Lake will celebrate the dedication of a newly commissioned Blue Star Memorial to honor America’s servicemen and women. Avon Lake now joins hundreds of other communities across the nation with a similar memorial.
The one-hour program will include a Presentation of Colors, 3-Gun Salute, patriotic music by the Avon Lake High School Woodwinds, and short comments by several dignitaries including the Mayor of Avon Lake. A reception will follow. It will take place Sun., Sept. 22 at 1 p.m. at Veteran’s Memorial Park, State Route 83 (Center Road) & Lake Road, Avon Lake.
Avon-on-the-Lake Garden Club chose the memorial tribute as the President’s project for 2013.
The 41” x 45” cast aluminum memorial required serious fund raising to commission its creation. The response of the city, local businesses, organizations and individuals was overwhelming.
The club received more than double its targeted goal!
The memorial will be unveiled by two garden club members, one of whom served as a WAVE during World War II.
Avon-on-the-Lake Garden Club was recently named state Garden Club of the Year by the Garden Club of Ohio.
