Avon’s “Candlelite Walk”, an annual favorite for local residents and visitors from all over northern Ohio, is scheduled for December 5 – December 8, 2013.
This year’s event kicks off early with a “Girlfriend’s Nite Out Wine Walk” on Thursday, December 5th from 5 to 8pm. The fun continues through Sunday, December 8th as French Creek Merchants and Restaurants offer “Candy Cane” specials, valuable prize drawings and tasty treats for holiday shoppers. Festively decorated shops, adorned with thousands of ornaments and fabulous gift ideas, are certain to inspire the spirit of the season.
Thursday at dusk, stroll the candlelit sidewalks of Avon’s French Creek District. Join in the third annual “Winter Wine Walk” from 5 to 8p.m, where participants are invited to taste an array of wines and complimentary foods at participating shops. Friday’s Wine Walk, scheduled for 6 to 9 pm, is dedicated to “Date Night”. “The response to the wine walk has been tremendous, with the crowds tripling from the first year. We hope to a create a better shopping and wine walk experience by offering two evenings for the Wine Walk”, stated Lori Miles, owner of Details. Tickets are available at a low price of $10, may be purchased the evening of the event at participating shops.
This year’s Gingerbread House Competition will be on display at Avon Isle from 2 to 7 pm on Saturday, December 7th. The competition is for children ages 3 to 12 years old. Competition entry information is available at www.frenchcreekdistrict.com. Children can also “Make a Gift”, with help from Home Depot instructors, at the Avon Isle from 2 to 4:30pm.
Stroll along with Santa on Saturday, December 7th and join in the Annual Christmas Tree Lighting. Gather at the Olde Avon Village (36840 Detroit Road, Avon, OH 44011) at 4:30 p.m.. Santa, in his amazing horse drawn sleigh, leads the way to the French Creek Gazebo (corner of Stoney Ridge Road & Detroit Road) at 5:00 p.m. Sing along with carolers, as you make your way through the Olde Avon Village and past the shops along Detroit Road. Watch as Santa lights the Christmas Tree and then follow him to Avon Isle, where kids can meet with Santa and enjoy refreshments. Take a moment to explore the beautifully restored Avon Isle, a treasured Avon landmark since 1926 and enjoy elaborate model train exhibits. The “Rail Blazers” model train club will be on display from 2 to 7 p.m. on Saturday at Avon Isle.
