Lorain County Receives Nearly $3 Million in Third Frontier Grants

Manning image_13345062262801334506254District 13 - Gayle ManningState Senator Gayle Manning (R–North Ridgeville) today announced the Ohio Controlling Board has authorized the release of $2,737,016 in Ohio Third Frontier grants to two projects in Lorain County.

As part of its Great Lakes Innovation and Development Enterprise (GLIDE), Lorain County Community College (LCCC) will receive $350,000 to advance its Edison Incubator Services. GLIDE is a public-private partnership housed on the LCCC campus and provides incubator and consultation services for businesses at all stages of development in Northeast Ohio.

“This is an internationally recognized initiative that supports the vital technological endeavors driving Ohio’s economy forward,” Manning said about the Third Frontier Program. “The selection of Lorain County for these investments wonderful testament to the great work our businesses, educators, and local governments are doing to increase innovation and get people back to work.”

The Controlling Board also authorized $2,387,016 for a loan through the Commercial Acceleration Loan Fund to Synapse Biomedical, Inc. in Oberlin to support its technology commercialization efforts of a treatment system it developed for individuals with chronic respiratory insufficiency.

The Ohio Third Frontier Program is a $2.3 billion initiative that aims to accelerate entrepreneurs, businesses, and universities engaged in research in the key areas of technology and industry strengths across the state.

“These grants further advance the visibility of the Northeast Ohio region as a competitor within the global marketplace,” added Manning.
