MATHCOUNTS is a national middle school program that promotes mathematics achievement through a series of fun and engaging “bee” style contests. LBMS won the Northeast Ohio chapter competition on Feb. 15 at Cleveland State University. Eighth graders Ryan Karpuska and Patrick Lee also placed first and third individually, respectively. The regional competition was sponsored by the Lorain County Society of Professional Engineers and was held at Lorain County Community College.

The top 15 scorers in the regional competition went on to compete in Columbus at Columbus State Community College on March 8.  State participants were Patrick Lee, Ryan Karpuszka, Angela Zhu, Sean Rossander, Lalit Kulshreshtha, Sanil Gosain, Miranda Li, Akshya Dhinakaran, Amin Boukzam and Meghana Tandon. Ryan placed 23rd out of about 200 middle school students participating from across the state. The state competition was sponsored by the Engineers Foundation of Ohio.

The MATHCOUNTS team is coached by LBMS math teacher and Math Club Advisor Anne Dill and LBMS parent Mark Stewart.
