A 40-year-old Westlake man hit and kicked his 36-year-old wife after they argued about money on April 14 at 8:43 a.m., according to Westlake Police. The man was arrested for felony Domestic Violence. He has a 2011 conviction for Menacing against a family member. He was also found to have marijuana and pepper spray in his car and so faces Possession of Marijuana and Carrying Various Weapons charges. More worrisome, he had pointed a handgun at his wife in their home the previous day and pulled the trigger. The weapon was apparently unloaded. The gun was not recovered, but 5 rounds of .38 cal ammunition were. He was charged with misdemeanor Domestice Violence for that incident. On April 16, he was found guilty of a probation violation from the prior Menacing case and given 150 days in jail.
Teen Age Nightmare
An April 13 Bradley Rd. traffic stop led to some 1 a.m. phone calls to parents after evidence of marijuana and alcohol consumption were discovered in the vehicle. The 17-year-old Avon Lake boy driving had not been drinking or smoking, but his passengers had indulged their appetites for such. An 18-year-old Avon Lake man was summonsed for Underage Consumption, Possession of Marijuana, and Possession of Marijuana Paraphernalia. Two 18-year-old Avon Lake women were summonsed for Underage Possession; a 17-year-old Avon Lake girl was cited into Juv. Ct. for Underage Possession, as was a 17-year-old Avon Lake boy, who also faces POM and Possession of Marijuana Paraphernalia charges. The juveniles were released at the scene to their parents.
A 24-year-old Brunswick woman’s 4:19 a.m. OVI arrest on April 13 must have seemed like déjà vu all over again. She had an active warrant from a 2013 Westlake Police OVI arrest, plus her license was suspended. She refused to take a breath test and faces OVI, Weaving, and DUS charges.
More ID Thefts
A Center Ridge Rd. woman’s April 10 attempt to electronically file her US income tax return was in vain; some unknown suspect had already done so using her identity. She reported the matter on April 13 to WPD and the IRS. Same again for a Morgan’s Run man on April 15; he got the bad news from his accountant, who had tried to electronically file the man’s return. A Creekside Dr. man also reported such ID Theft related to his IRS return on April 16 when his accountant notified him of a phony return already being submitted in the victim’s name.
A Marview Dr. man’s identity has been used to open 8 cell phone accounts; 4 in Dec. 2013 and 4 in Jan. 2014. He also found out that someone has twice tried to file a 2013 federal tax return using his social security number when he submitted his on April 15.
An alarm company reported a drop at a Center Ridge Rd. tavern on April 15 at 3:41 a.m.. A window of a rear door was broken and $150 cash taken. As seen on the CCTV, the suspect is a male wearing baggy pants, work boots, hoodie, backpack, and something covering his face.
RTA Lot Thefts
Catalytic converters were stolen off of 2 vehicles at the Sperry Rd. RTA lot on April 15. This is the second time since 2011 this has happened to a woman from Avon Lake; the other victim is a Westlake man. RTA PD was notified of the thefts.
