Bay Police: Resident Scammed for $1000

A Roberta Drive resident contacted BVPD on Sept. 3 at 0919 hrs, a to report he had been the victim of a fraud. A foreign sounding male called the resident claiming to be from the IRS. The caller told the resident that he needed to go to the store and purchase Green Dot cards immediately to pay off a debt he had with the IRS. The resident complied and purchased over $1,000 in Green Dot cards. He then gave the caller the PIN numbers from the back of the cards. After doing so, the resident realized he had been scammed. Police are investigating.

Road Hazard

On 09/01/2014, at 0126 hrs, a BVPD officer came across an occupied vehicle with the driver’s side door open, stopped on Lake Forest just south of Lake Rd. As the officer approached the vehicle, he realized the male driver was vomiting in the roadway. After speaking with the 19 yoa male, the officer suspected the driver had been drinking. Field sobriety tests were administered, and as a result, the driver was arrested for OVI. The Lakewood resident will face charges at RRMC.

Home Theft

On 09/01/2014, at 1034 hrs, a Humiston resident reported that her house had been entered overnight and her purse had been stolen. Police are investigating.

OVI

On 09/01/2014, at 1908 hrs, a motorist reported a possible OVI in the area of Wolf Rd. and Glen Park. Officers located the vehicle on Glen Park and conducted a traffic stop. After speaking with the 35 yoa male driver, officers suspected the driver was under the influence of drugs. Field sobriety tests were administered, and as a result, the driver was arrested for OVI. The Middleburg Hts. Residence will face charges at RRMC.

Debit Card Fraud

On 09/02/2014, at 1750 hrs, a Lake Forest resident reported that a family member had fraudulently used her debit card to make an approximately $400 withdrawal from her checking account. Police are investigating.

Bike Swiped

On 09/03/2014, at 1603 hrs, a Tanglewood resident reported that her unlocked bicycle was stolen from the High School during school hours.

OVI

On 09/05/2014, at 1925 hrs, BVPD received a call from a motorist reporting a possible OVI in the area of Bradley Rd. and Wolf Rd. Officers caught up to the vehicle on Wolf Rd. near the High School and stopped it for a traffic violation. After speaking with the 50 yoa male driver, the officer suspected the driver had been drinking. Field sobriety tests were administered, and as a result the Michigan resident was arrested for OVI. He will face charges at RRMC.

On 09/05/2014, at 0217 hrs, a BVPD officer stopped a vehicle on Lake Rd. near Dover Center for a traffic violation. After speaking with the 35 yoa male driver, the officer suspected the driver had been drinking. Field sobriety tests were administered, and as a result, the Bay Village resident was arrested for OVI. He will face charges at RRMC.
