Clients De-Stress & Donate on Sept. 17
The Massage Envy Spas at The Promenade of Westlake and City Centre of Avon participated in a national fundraising event, ‘Healing Hands for Arthritis,’ in support of the Arthritis Foundation on Sept. 17.
For every 1-hour massage or facial sessions provided to its members and guests, Massage Envy Spas donated $10 to the Arthritis Foundation.
“This is a natural fit for Massage Envy when you think of the connection between Arthritis and the benefits of massage,” said Kevin Flynn, partner in the local Massage Envy locations with Brian Quinn. “We have 8 locations in the Cleveland area, and nationally there are 1,000 locations participating.”
Quinn said the opportunity to meet with Arthritis Foundation patient beneficiaries brought home the importance of the drive.
“There are over 300,000 juvenile arthritis sufferers in the country, and we had a chance to meet with some of them through the Foundation,” said Quinn. “When you get to meet a 16-year old girl who has trouble combing her hair, it’s pretty profound.”
Flynn said he was especially touched by the appointments made by regular clients who then donated their sessions to arthritis patients.
Massage Envy Spa partners Murad, BioFreeze and Wyndmere all donated 10 percent of sales from its products sold in the clinics on Sept. 17.
Hands for Arthritis promotion has raised more than $2 million for the Arthritis Foundation.
Massage Envy Spa also is a national sponsor of the Arthritis Foundation’s Walk to Cure Arthritis. Spa owners, therapists, estheticians and staff from across the country attend their local events to share information about the benefits of massage therapy, provide chair massages and support the Arthritis Foundation mission.
With more than 50 million American adults and 300,000 children affected by the disease, arthritis is the leading cause of disability in the U.S. Massage therapy can play an important role in alleviating pain and swelling caused by arthritis, improving flexibility and circulation, and reducing stress and anxiety.
“Now in its fourth year, Healing Hands for Arthritis makes a significant contribution to research and the fight against arthritis. None of these efforts would be possible without the ongoing support of our members and guests, which is why we encouraged everyone to join us on Sept. 17 and make this another great event,” said Joe Luongo, Massage Envy Spa chief operating officer.
