University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center presents the 15th annual 5K “Skeleton Run for Your Bones” on Sunday, October 26 at Amherst Steele High School. All proceeds from the race will benefit the Amherst Schools Science Olympiad, Amherst Running Club, and the UH Elyria Medical Center Foundation.
Runners can choose from not only the 5K race, but also a one-mile “Funny Bone” race as well as a quarter-mile “Silly Bone” run. Running while dressed in Halloween costumes is a tradition for each of the races, and “Spirit Awards” will be given to runners in the best costumes.
For the 5K, “B” tag chip timing will be utilized, which provides the fastest and most accurate race results. Hermes Sports & Events will administer the system.
Last year’s race included nearly 700 participants and raised $8,000 for local organizations. Race day registration begins at 8:00 a.m., with the quarter-mile “Silly Bone” run starting at 8:45 a.m., followed by the one-mile “Funny Bone” run at 9:15 a.m. The 5K “Skeleton Run” begins promptly at 9:30 a.m. Long-sleeved “Tech” t-shirts will be distributed to the first 400 paid 5K participants, and short-sleeved t-shirts will be distributed to the first 100 paid “Funny Bone” runners.
Immediately following the race, awards will be distributed. Medals will be given to the first, second and third place finishers in each age group and gender. Cash awards will be given to the top three overall male and female winners in the 5K race. Refreshments will be available to all runners and their families.
