Inauguration Day 2015

39464Inauguration Day meant Oaths of Office for public officials representing our region.

State Representative Nan Baker (R-Westlake) was sworn in as a member of the Ohio House of Representatives for the 131st General Assembly. She represents the 16th Ohio House District, which includes Bay Village, Fairview Park, North Olmsted, Rocky River, and Westlake.

“It is an honor to be serving the 16th Ohio House District for a fourth term,” said Baker.  “I look forward to focusing on workforce development issues and job training.  As I continue to say, ‘It’s all about jobs!’”

IMG_5236(2)The Ohio General Assembly also held their Opening Ceremonies for the 131st General Assembly, officially marking the beginning of the new legislative session.

During the ceremonies, the members of the Ohio Senate unanimously re-elected State Senator Tom Patton (R–Strongsville) to serve as Senate Majority Floor Leader. Patton has served as Majority Floor Leader, the chamber’s number-three leadership post, since September 2011.

“It is a privilege for me to continue representing my community and our state as the Senate Majority Floor Leader,” said Patton. “I am humbled and honored by the faith of my Senate colleagues, and look forward to continuing to address the needs of my constituents and our entire state.”

State Senator Gayle Manning (R–North Ridgeville) was also sworn in for her second term in the Ohio Senate, representing the 13th District in the state legislature’s upper chamber. Senator Manning handedly won reelection to the Northeast Ohio seat in the November 4, 2014 General Election. The district encompasses all of both Huron and Lorain Counties.

manning“Public Service has always been an important part of my life and I am honored and humbled by the support my community has afforded me through this great opportunity,” said Manning. “I’ve learned throughout my life that there are many ways to serve the people around you and I’ve had the privilege of doing so from the front of a classroom to the chamber of city hall to the hallowed halls of the Statehouse. This session, my leading goal is to find new ways of creating new opportunity for all Ohioans and strengthening our community for the generations that will follow.”

Manning became the only member of the state legislature to serve alongside one of their children as her son, State Representative Nathan Manning (R–North Ridgeville), follows in the footsteps of his parents as an elected public servant. Nathan Manning is the son of Senator Manning and her late husband, former State Representative Jeff Manning.
