Bay Resident Scammed by Phone Computer Service Call

On 01/09/2015, at 1126 hrs, a resident in the 26000 block of Knickerbocker called Bay Village Police to report she had been scammed.  The victim received a call from a male with a heavy accent who stated the victim was having computer issues, and he could fix them remotely.  She gave the caller her debit card number, and the next day discovered $146.00 had been taken out of her account with no services being provided.  She called the number back, but it was no longer accepting incoming calls.  BVPD is investigating, and reminds residents NOT to give personal information out over the phone when being solicited.

Better Safe than Sorry

On 01/07/2015, at 0719 hrs, a concerned citizen called BVPD to report a suspicious vehicle was parked in the old Shell station lot.  The caller was concerned because the vehicle was occupied, and school was going to be starting soon.  Officers checked on the occupant, and learned he was an employee of Bay Square waiting for his snow removal crew to show up.

Harrassment

On 01/08/2015, at 2125 hrs, a resident in the 29000 block of Wolf Rd. reported she was being harassed by a stranger via text messages after telling him to stop.  Police are investigating.

OVIs

On 01/10/2015, at 0154 hrs, a BVPD officer stopped a vehicle on Lake Rd. near Cahoon for a traffic violation.  After speaking with the 62 yoa male driver, the officer suspected the driver had been drinking.  Field sobriety tests were administered, and as a result, the North Olmsted resident was arrested for OVI.  He will face charges at RRMC.

On 01/11/2015, at 0258 hrs, a BVPD officer stopped a vehicle on Bassett near the Rail Road tracks for a traffic violation.  After speaking with 21 yoa male driver, the officer suspected the driver had been drinking.  Field sobriety tests were administered, and as a result, the Westlake resident was arrested for OVI.  He will face charges at RRMC.

Package Theft

On 01/10/2015, at 1546 hrs, a Buchanan resident called BVPD to report a package worth approximately $100 was stolen from her front porch the day before.  Police are investigating.
