Claudia Vakos’ and Veronica Bozich’s Level I Spanish students from Lee Burneson Middle School earned 11 Gold, 13 Silver and six Bronze medals, along with several honorable mentions, in the 2015 National Spanish Examinations.
The exams are the largest of their kind in the United States with 37,530 Spanish I students taking the High School Level I National Spanish Exam.
Maislin Bogart scored in the top 1 percent of students, while Catherine Cirincione, Mihir Shetty and Talya Jeter landed in the top 2 percent and 3 percent in the nation to earn Gold medals.
Finalists scoring in the top 4 percent to 5 percent in the nation also earned Gold medals. They are Jolie Bogart, Gillian Delffs, Gabriella Jabboure, Abigail Rence, Nicholas Schochow, Eliza Steinman and Isabella DiGiulio.
The 13 Silver medalists scored in the top 6 percent to 14 percent in the nation – Julianna Macartney, Grady Schlott, Jennifer Wagner, Ali Mohammed, Madison Stanca, Leah Bunner, Akshyasri Dhinakaran, Peyton Hahn, Rebekah Hardy, Hyun Park, Martin Schaefer, Cole Smith, Katelin Stenger.
The six Bronze medalists who scored in the top 16 percent to 23 percent in the nation are Hannah Salem, Gracie Chenevey, Isabella Stalter, Emma Peeler, Austin Loosli and Benjamino Savarino.
