Nine Injured at Crocker Park Fireworks Display

Nine people sustained “minor injuries” at the Liberty Fest Fireworks display hosted at Crocker Park last night, leading to an early termination of the show.Westlake Police logo

Westlake Police say a “catastrophic failure” of one of the show’s display elements led to an immediate shutdown of the event.

The Westlake Fire Department treated nine people at the scene for minor injuries. No one was taken to the hospital.

The event will be investigated by the Ohio State Fire Marshall’s Office.  More information to follow.

Crocker Park’s Liberty Fest is an annual summer tradition at Crocker Park. The fireworks display is launched from the tops of Crocker Park buildings after a day of entertainment, including a patriotic concert by the Cleveland Pops orchestra. Thousands attend each year.

Crocker Park has posted this comment on its facebook site: ‘Event update: The fireworks incident is under investigation. We will share more details as soon as they become available.’

Tonight during the fireworks display at Crocker Park there was a catastrophic failure of one of the display boxes. The exhibitor immediately shut down the display. The W.F.D. treated 9 people at the scene for minor injuries. No one was taken to the hospital. The event will be investigated by the Ohio State Fire Marshall’s Office. More information to follow.
