Bay High Football: New League, High Hopes

DSC_9082-30The Bay High football team enters the 2015 season with a powerful slate of skilled players and a new conference that will pit the Rockets against some unfamiliar names and schools.

The West Shore Conference has disbanded and Bay joins the newly-formed Great Lakes Conference. League members include Elyria Catholic, Holy Name, Normandy, Parma, Rocky River and Valley Forge.

Bay went 8-4 last year. posting a brilliant playoff run that saw the Rockets hang with eventual D. IV champ Benedictine into the third quarter of the Regional finals at Byers Field. Returning for the Rockets are star quarterback John Koz and leading rusher Nick Best. But second-year head coach Ron Rutt has instilled a new enthusiasm in the program and Bay had a strong off-season in the weight room that will replenish the offensive and defensive fronts with hungry newcomers anxious to bang in the new league.

Community Day at Bay High gave future Rockets a chance to get on the field with this year’s team Saturday. Great fun for all!
