9/11: We Will Never Forget

DSC_2935-8The events of September 11, 2001 are seared in the American memory forever. Schools, communities and civic groups everywhere gathered last Friday in remembrance of that fateful day. One such event was hosted by Avon Mayor Bryan Jensen at the Avon Safety Center that morning. Police, firemen and community members paid tribute to those who fell and honored those who continue to serve on the anniversary of what is now known as Patriot Day.

A promise to “Never Forget” was the theme at Avon and Avon Lake Schools on Friday, September 11 as students participated in memorial displays dedicated to remembering 9/11.

The students at Erieview Elementary School in Avon Lake were encouraged to dress as their favorite hero. The entire school came outside and sang patriotic songs and recited the Pledge of Allegiance. The American Flag was raised at half staff by the school’s safety patrol. After the ceremony, the students placed flags along the sidewalk in front of the school.

Thousands of flags displayed outside Avon Lake High School and serve as a reminder of the tragic events on 9/11. The flags were placed by members of the school’s Key Club and members of the local Kiwanis Club.
