Bay High Football Team Posts 9-1 Mark in Record Setting Season

The Bay High football team defeated Parma 17-0 last Friday night to complete the regular season with a 9-1 record and a share of the Great Lakes Conference championship.

DSC_0088-97Bay also claimed an OHSAA playoff berth, finishing as the number five team in Div. III Region 8. This Friday, the Rockets will travel to Ashland to take on the Ashland Arrows (9-1) at 7:30.

The win over Parma was a solid way for Bay to end the conference slate. The Rocket “red-shirt” defense has not allowed a point for three straight weeks. Joe DeBarr made several big tackles behind the line of scrimmage while seniors Cole Gergye, Kyle Thompson and Reidar McClure played great defense all night.

Nick Best (20) follows the blocking of Matt Tashijan (71).

Running back Nick Best set the single season rushing record this year, finishing the regular season with 1912 yards. The previous record was 1820 yards by Kevin Williams in 2002. He has followed the solid blocking of Brendan O’Doherty, Maxton Edgerly, John Reid, Sean Heideloff, Matt Tashjian, Jimmy Hoke, and Kyle Thompson all year.

The Rocket offense broke the school record for points scored in a season this year. The previous record was 300 points scored by the 1968 Rockets.

Bay shares the first-ever GLC championship with Holy Name and Rocky River as all three teams posted 5-1 league marks.

Friday’s game at Ashland marks the second straight playoff appearance for Rockets.
