In an effort to keep Cleveland’s homeless warm this winter, Community West Foundation will match dollar for dollar all donations made to its SocksPLUS campaign on Tuesday, Dec. 1.
The day marks the fourth annual “Giving Tuesday,” a national effort to increase charitable donations.
The SocksPLUS campaign is an ongoing initiative to supply the city’s more than 2,000 homeless with socks as well as shoes, boots, coats and other essentials throughout the year, especially during the cold winter months.
Socks play an important role in preventing frostbite, which can happen in mere minutes in sub-zero temperatures. Last winter, Northern Ohio experienced 10 days with sub-zero temperatures.
Dry socks also protect from infection and disease, which can be spread from bacteria that breed in damp areas. For as little as $10, donors can provide 10 pairs of socks to someone in need. The socks and other essential items will be supplied during the annual Homeless Stand Down on Jan. 23, 2016, as well as supplying numerous organizations that serve the homeless in Cleveland.
Donations can be made online at www.communitywestfoundation.org/socksplus.
Community West Foundation will match all donations made between noon Monday, Nov. 30 through midnight Tuesday, Dec. 1.
