Caitlin Perez-Stable, a junior at Avon Lake High School, will be helping to brighten the holidays for some of the area’s sick children and their families when she delivers over 2,000 coloring books and art supplies to Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital and the Ronald McDonald House this Sunday.

At the beginning of the school year, Caitlin began a project called “Color My World.” She went about soliciting donations from her classmates and community to collect coloring books, crayons, colored pencils, markers and other art supplies to be distributed both to patients at Rainbow Babies and their family members staying at Ronald McDonald House. “I did a video project about them in junior high,” says Perez-Stable, “and it always stayed with me. I really wanted to help.”

Over the course of September, her classmates, family and friends delivered. Area businesses did as well. Bendon Publishing in Ashland, OH and Fox Chapel Publishing in East Petersberg, PA both donated boxes of brand new coloring and activity books to Color My World. “I cannot thank them enough,” Perez-Stable says. “Color My World would have been nowhere near the success it has been without their generosity.”

WLLeaderboardAd1Perez-Stable also expressed gratitude to the local Pizza Hut, who helped sponsor the project. “We had a completion,” she reports, “and since the junior class donated the most supplies, Pizza Hut gave every junior a coupon for a free pizza!”

Color My World is set to deliver all the supplies this Sunday, just in time for Christmas Week. “I’m so excited to be able to help people in need during this holiday season,” Caitlin says, “but I think my mom might be more excited to finally have all this stuff out of her dining room!”
