Westlake Coach Chip Weiss to Step Down

DSC_4947-1After an illustrious 19 year career, 14 as the Head Westlake High Girls Basketball Coach, Chip Weiss has decided to step down. He leaves Westlake with a record of 208-114 including this past season’s 23-3 record. Citing an increase in responsibilities in his job, Coach Weiss didn’t feel he was being fair to the Lady Demon basketball players and the amount of time he could dedicate to their success.

While serving as Westlake’s head coach, his teams have won the Southwest Conference in 2009, 2015, and 2016.

He has led his teams to three district championships in 2009, 2011, and 2016; and two district runner up positions in 2012 and 2015.

Within his tenure as head coach, Weiss has been named twice as Coach of the Year by The Lorain Morning Journal and Greater Cleveland Basketball Division l Coaches Association.

Coach Weiss has been the recipient of numerous Coach of the Year Honors including; SWC Coach of the Year in 2009, 2015, and 2016, and 2016 North East Coach of the year.

The Lady Demons and DemonNation thank Coach Weiss for his dedication to Westlake and the athletes he has coached.

A search for a successor will commence in the next few weeks.
