Prayers From Maria Logo_RGBAvon Middle School Social Studies/US History Teacher Tim Wearsch will be biking from California to Washington, D.C., 3,100 miles in 31 days, this summer.

Wearsch is embarking on the trek as a fundraising event to benefit the Prayers from Maria Foundation (prayersfrommaria.org).

Those wishing to make a donation in support can log on to www.crowdrise.com/prayers-from-maria1/fundraiser/timwearsch1.

Wearsch is an avid rider, teaching spin classes at the Avon French Creek YMCA, as well as formally owning Family Cycle and Fitness in North Ridgeville, before beginning teaching full-time 15 years ago in Avon.

A few years ago he rode from Mobile, Alabama to home and during that ride, he decided that he would go across the country and do it as a fundraiser. His goal was to connect with a local charity.

He will drive out to California with his dad the day after school lets out. He will begin his journey across the county June 5 with his back tire in the Pacific Ocean at Santa Monica Pier and finish 3,100 miles in 31 days later in Washington D.C.

His dad will follow behind and Tim’s best friend, Steve Lee, from Bay Village will begin the first two weeks of the trip and rejoin at some point to finish.

Tim’s son, Jacob, will join him for a few days at Sante Fe, New Mexico for a three generation Father’s Day…..and another son, Zak, will join Tim for a few days as he rides through southern Ohio.
