Learwood Middle School (Avon Lake) seventh-grader Rachel Mueller was one of 14 students representing Ohio at the 89th annual Scripps National Spelling Bee Competition currently taking place in Washington, D.C.
Avon Lake City Schools are proud of her accomplishments. After an intense round of preliminary competitions, Mueller misspelled Octateuch (a collection of 8 books) and she was no longer in the competition.
Mueller earned a trip to the National Spelling Bee after winning the District Spelling Bee in March. That event was sponsored by the Educational Service Center of Lorain County and the Chronicle Telegram newspaper.
Mueller’s spelling bee adviser is Emily Lee, a seventh-grade language arts teacher at Learwood Middle School.
