Students at Westview Elementary School boarded the Titanic for an historical journey. Students dressed up just as the passengers did back in 1912. The educational lesson is a rite of passage for the school’s fourth-graders. The program has been taking place at the school for decades. It is something they remember long after they leave Avon Lake. The program incorporates skills such as geography, math, reading, writing journals, problem solving and art. They also get to have a little fun aboard the ship on the sun deck, playing shuffleboard and enjoying a meal in the dining room. They also sent correspondences home via Morse Code.
