Blue summer skies welcomed golfers to the 15th annual Drive for Life Benefit at Westwood Country Club on Monday, July 11.

Golfers gather at this event each year to support the Caring Continues Fund – a program to provide help and hope to cancer patients receiving treatment at the Cleveland Clinic Cancer Center at Fairview Hospital. The event is presented by Community West Foundation, and proceeds assist patients at the Cancer Center in their time of need.

“When someone gets cancer, the regular bills that must be paid each month don’t just stop. There is still the light bill, house payment, car insurance to be paid,” said a grateful Sue Dunson, Vice President Oncology Services, Fairview Hospital, as she thanked participants. Funds raised by the Drive for Life participants offer meaningful support to patients at a time it is most needed in their battle against the disease.

Community West Foundation President and CEO, David T. Dombrowiak was joined by CWF Board Chair, William Oatey, and Fairview Hospital Board Chair Mark Stevens in also welcoming supporters.

The round of golf featured lively competition among the friendly rivals, followed by a post-golf dinner featuring former Cleveland Browns lineman Dan Fike and Plain Dealer sports columnist Bud Shaw as speakers. The pair swapped stories about the Browns glory days, the impact of the Cavs’ NBA championship on Cleveland and likelihood of the Indians’ playoff run this summer.
