The Avon High football team is flying high this fall, standing at 9-0 after last Friday’s 42-7 win over Berea-Midpark.

The Eagles will be looking to hit the magic 10-0 regular season mark this Friday when they wrap up Southwestern Conference play at home against Olmsted Falls. It won’t be an easy task, however, as the Bulldogs come to town at 7-2.

An SWC title will be the first for Avon. A longtime power in the old West Shore Conference, Avon finished second to powerful Midview last year. But, the Eagles avenged that loss with a stirring 45-28 win at Midview in Sept. That set the stage for this year’s bid at an unbeaten regular season.

Avon is also ranked first in its region in the OHSAA playoff rankings. They top a list that speaks to the strength of football programs in the area.

Westlake (6-3) is looking for a playoff berth.

Avon Lake (6-3) is also looking for a playoff berth.

Entering this week’s games, five area teams were in the hunt for playoff berths in Div. II Region 6: 1. Avon (9-0) 25.9667, 3. Grafton Midview (8-1) 25.5, 5. Olmsted Falls (7-2) 17.7333, 8. Westlake (6-3) 15.1556, and 9. Avon Lake (6-3) 14.6167, (top 8 qualify for playoffs).
