The winter sports season has been one for the books for the athletes of Avon High!

Winning Southwestern Conference championships were the boys basketball and girls swim teams, while swimming star Ben Brooks placed in two events at state.

The boys hockey team captured the White Division North championship this winter, too, and the girls basketball team advanced to the district finals before losing to Olmsted Falls in the title game.

Track season is now on the way, and Avon had two athletes place at the OATCCC indoor track meet. Sam Gerak, Northwestern-bound football player, took fourth in the shot put, and Mitch Cooper, headed to University of Akron of Akron as a placekicker, took 10th in the high jump.

In wrestling, SWC and sectional champ Tommy Sear was sixth at district, Max Borque was fifth and is a state alternate, and Tate Zeman was sixth.

Avon’s boys basketball team locked up the SWC title with a 46-43 over Olmsted Falls two weeks ago. The Eagles then beat North Olmsted, 75-48, last week in a sectional opener and face Lorain in the title game March 8.
