Saint Bernadette School hosted the Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court on Friday, March 10, 2017. Our eighth grade students, along with eighth graders from Holy Trinity, Lakewood Catholic Academy, St. Mary’s Avon and St. Raphael School all learned about the the legal process in real time.
Student Council co-chair, Charlie Koncelik brought the court to order. Students listened to three cases brought in front of Judge Sheehan, and there was a question and answer session at the end. Two sheriff’s deputies were on hand, along with a Judge’s baliff, a Probation Officer and a licensed Court Reporter.
Thank you to everyone who made this exciting educational experience possible for our students.
Officer Funari and his canine partner, Chico, visited St. Bernadette School on Wednesday, March 8, 2017. They are officers for the Westlake Police Department. The students read the story, Aero and Officer Mike, in their Reading classes. That story is about a real-life officer and his canine partner. Officer Funari and Chico taught about real-life situations they face. One interesting fact is that Chico was sworn in by the mayor, just the way a human officer is sworn in to service. Each student got to pet Chico, who then visited the office! Thank you to Officer Funari and Chico for this wonderful opportunity for our students!
March is the national month to recognize support for Muscular Dystrophy. In an effort to achieve this awareness of MDA, St. Bernadette School has once again raised funds in support of 8th grade student, RJ Sullivan and MDA research. Students purchased green and gold shamrocks, hung them on their classroom doors and in turn raised $2,460.46. A huge THANK YOU to our St. Bernadette Student Council for organizing this fundraiser and to every family who purchased shamrocks in support of this important cause!
St. Bernadette School also held our 1st annual Green Madness Event on Thursday evening, March 16, 2017 in our Parish Activity Center. Our 8th grade Basketball teams competed against coaches and other “surprise” participants in a friendly game for bragging rights. We had a huge crowd in attendance and their cheers reached the rafters! Eighth grade student, RJ Sullivan was the coach for our Bulldog boys! All proceeds were donated to the Muscular Dystrophy Association of Northeast Ohio. A big THANK YOU to our Bulldog parent, Mr. Brian Cook for organizing this exciting event!
