Abigail Garcia, a seven-year-old from Westlake, OH won the U8 Mid Atlantic Elks Soccer Shoot on Saturday, March 4, 2017 in Frederick, Maryland. Abby earned a high score of 42, beating out girls from New York, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, New Jersey, Kentucky, and the combined Maryland-Delaware-District of Columbia.
Miss Garcia earned the right to represent the state of Ohio by competing at the local, district, and state levels. At the state competition, held in Coshocton, Ohio, this past July, Abby won the tournament by scoring the highest in her age group after having three attempts to shoot the soccer ball through a series of five goals, decreasing in size from 48 inches to 17 inches from 15 feet away, with points awarded for the varying degrees of difficulty.
During the summer 35,000 children across the state of Ohio participate in the Elks Soccer Shoot contests. In early June, Abby participated locally and won the spot of representing her district in the June 18th district finals. There, she competed against five other girls in her age class and advanced to the state finals.
