CCPL has also scheduled two public meetings for community dialogue on the plans for June 7 and 14. Emails to cardholders went out today and a mailing will follow next week. The location of the new building has been reported to be the Bay Way Cabin site in Cahoon Park.
Here is the letter:
May 25, 2017
Dear Bay Village Branch customer,
Over the past few years, Cuyahoga County Public Library (CCPL) has worked in earnest to ensure that the Bay Village Branch facility can meet the changing needs of the community today and into the future. As CCPL has completed 19 building projects across the county since 2012, we have identified several key trends that are essential to exceptional public library service: convenience, integrated technology, free community meeting space and robust learning opportunities for residents of all ages.
CCPL recognizes that we have an opportunity to enhance public library service in Bay Village. The limitations of the current building footprint make it difficult to achieve the outcomes that residents say they want from their library. When surveyed in 2016, a majority of Bay Village cardholders indicated that a new building was a good option for the community.
Together with the City of Bay Village, we are pleased to confirm that we are proceeding with a replacement building project. Not only will the new building enable CCPL to deliver improved service, but the efficiency gains will help CCPL to reduce annual operating costs and live within our existing 2.5 tax millage – the lowest of any library system in the county. A replacement building project in Bay Village will not require additional taxpayer investment, nor will it infringe upon greenspace in the community.
As we move forward creating a public library branch that the community deserves, we want to know more about what you most want to see in a new branch building. Cuyahoga County Public Library invites you to participate in an upcoming community dialogue session to discuss your thoughts and ideas for the new Bay Village Branch.
The session will follow a “world café” format with stations where participants can discuss specific design elements related to the building exterior, children’s area, technology and more. The information we collect during the session will be integrated into design plans for the new branch.
Please join us for one of two community dialogue sessions:
-Wednesday, June 7 from 6 – 7PM at the Dwyer Community Center (300 Bryson Lane)Wednesday,
-June 14 from 6 – 7PM at the CCPL Bay Village Branch (502 Cahoon Road)
We look forward to learning more about the community’s vision and hope you will join us.
