The City of Avon joined with other communities in the area in observing Memorial Day the morning of May 29. The parade began at the Avon Senior Center on Detroit Road and finished at the Avon Center Cemetery at the corner of Detroit Road and State Route 83. After the parade, a memorial service was conducted at the cemetery including Taps and a 21-gun salute. Mayor Bryan Jensen welcomed all to join in honoring those who sacrificed for our country. Another ceremony took place at Resthaven Memory Garden, 3700 Center Road, at 10:45 a.m. VFW officials and spectators also met at St. Mary’s Cemetery at 11:15 a.m.to honor David F. Schneider. The Avon-Avon Lake VFW is named after the Vietnam veteran.
